VILLAGE TIMES: Stony Brook University to break ground on student dorm in June

Proposed SBU Residence and Dining HallStony Brook University will be breaking ground on a two-building, 759-bed residence facility on campus for students this summer, bringing the on-campus bed count to 10,300 and making Stony Brook the largest on-campus housing in the State University of New York system.

There will also be a 60,000-square-foot dining facility built along with the two residence halls on John S. Toll Drive, between the Charles B. Wang Center and Mendelsohn Quad. The project will include dining options on the ground floor with suite style, single-occupancy bedrooms in the upper floors of the two planned buildings.

Construction is expected to begin this summer.

“We have had constructive conversations where we discuss many ideas, including opportunities to partner with private developers,” SBU spokesperson Lauren Sheprow said in a statement. “These discussions include the feasibility of building on the campus and off and a variety of business models.”
