VILLAGE TIMES: Stony Brook University breaks ground on new dorm

SBU Toll Drive ProjectStony Brook University broke ground recently on the first phase of the new 759-room student housing facility and 60,000-square-foot dining center on John S. Toll Drive, between the Charles B. Wang Center and Mendelsohn Quad.

Scheduled to be completed by fall 2016, the new facility will offer housing for upperclassmen and bring total on-campus housing to more than 10,300 beds. Construction on the second phase is anticipated to start in December.

The new facility on John S. Toll Drive will feature two modern buildings: Phase I will consist of building a 303-bed residence hall and Phase II will construct one with 456 beds, adjacent to the first. The units, mostly suites with four single-occupancy bedrooms, will each have a living room and two bathrooms. The facilities will be fully air-conditioned, with individual thermostatic controls, and will offer high-speed wired and wireless Internet access and other amenities.
