Romaine: Build SBU housing

Supervisor Romaine speaking during the State of the Town address.During his annual state of the town address, Brookhaven Supervisor Ed Romaine pledged to continue expanding shared services and recycling initiatives, update land-use plans and hamlet studies and called on Stony Brook University to address its student housing and for the Port Jefferson power plant to be repowered.

Romaine [also] called on Stony Brook University to enter into public-private partnerships with housing developers to alleviate issues with illegal apartments and rooming houses in Stony Brook and Setauket for university students. In addition, he said the town would take a new look at traffic, pedestrian safety, parking and land use along the Route 25A corridor in Stony Brook and Setauket — an initiative originally spearheaded by former Supervisor Mark Lesko and former Councilman Steve Fiore-Rosenfeld.
